Restaurants & Food
Finding Indian food and groceries in the region.
Eating out
Hull has a long-established hospitality scene, particularly around the city centre, Princes Avenue and Newland Avenue. Indian, Bangladeshi and broader South Asian restaurants are present across the city and in nearby towns such as Beverley, Cottingham and Hessle.
Useful ways to find a restaurant or takeaway nearby:
- Google Maps — search "Indian restaurant" or "Indian takeaway" with your postcode.
- TripAdvisor — recent customer reviews for restaurants in Hull and the East Riding.
- Just Eat / Deliveroo / Uber Eats — delivery coverage varies by postcode.
- Food Standards Agency — check hygiene ratings at ratings.food.gov.uk.
Groceries & spices
Several independent South Asian and international grocery shops operate in Hull, particularly around the Spring Bank and Beverley Road areas. Mainstream UK supermarkets — Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons — also carry a reasonable range of Indian groceries, including lentils, basmati rice, spices, paneer and frozen items.
For larger or more specialist shops, the cities of Leeds and Sheffield are within an hour or two by car and have well-established South Asian food districts.
Home cooking & community
Many community members cook regional Indian food at home and are happy to share tips on where to source ingredients. We hope to add a community-contributed list of trusted local shops once members start submitting suggestions.
Dietary needs
Most Indian restaurants in the UK clearly mark vegetarian and vegan options. Always check directly with the restaurant for allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten) and for any specific dietary requirements — practices vary by venue.
